Amy & Denton

In many ways, we are opposites! Denton loves the heat; Amy loves the cold. Denton prefers the mountains; Amy is a beach bum. Denton likes biking; Amy prefers to run. Denton is a thinker; Amy is a talker. But we share several passions: COFFEE, cooking and eating, exploring new places, adopting animals, and staying healthy and fit. Most importantly, we share a faith in Jesus. We met in church (introduced by Amy’s mom) and we love serving in our local church, especially through teaching.

Amy’s hobbies include baking cookies, playing piano, reading murder mysteries, watching football and crime dramas on TV, road tripping, kayaking, taking nature photos and talking on the phone. Denton’s hobbies include fishing and hunting, archery, strumming on the guitar, weightlifting, grilling, and yelling when the Texas Longhorns play football.

Together, we love attacking tough hikes, spending time outside, visiting with family, walking our dogs, doing jigsaw puzzles, being Star Wars nerds and traveling to new places.

We live in a rural neighborhood northwest of Houston, Texas, on five acres with a one-story house, a long back porch and a barn. Our neighbors are primarily farmers and ranchers. Dozens of family members are within easy driving distance.

In Texas, time outdoors learning about nature and animals is part of the fun! We have two dogs: a mini-Aussie named Daisy and a cattle dog mix named Flower who we rescued from a Texas shelter. They’re both goofballs who LOVE to frolic outside!

We’re an hour from downtown Houston and all the cultural and educational opportunities of a major city plus one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals. Denton grew up in Texas and he’s thrilled to be back in his favorite state.

When we first met, we immediately recognized our shared love and commitment to family. We each have special relationships with our Moms and recently relocated to Texas (from New Jersey) to live closer to them. They’re excited to be grandmothers again and look forward to spoiling a new little one. Denton’s three sons are all in their 20s, recently married, and they can’t wait to be big brothers again. All of Denton’s extended family is proud to call the Lone Star State “home.” Though Amy’s family is spread across the country, she dotes on her two nieces and enjoys regular calls and periodic visits with her two brothers, cousins, aunts and uncles.

We love Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with extended family. The gatherings always feature delicious food, laughter, cards and board games, and multiple conversations at once, ha. We are grateful for their support and participation as we walk through the adoption process. When we aren’t with family, we love spending time with friends–trying new restaurants, kayaking, hiking and cooking out.

Denton on Amy: What I love most about Amy is her positive energy. She is passionately driven to achieve her goals. Her compassion is unmatched. She is generous both in spirit and action. She is deeply committed to family. She is endlessly encouraging, uplifting me every day with love, kindness, and support. I know all this springs from her personal faith in Jesus.

Amy on Denton: Denton’s contagious laugh and adventurous spirit both give me joy! I appreciate how he treats me as his partner in every way. He trusts and respects me. He supports my career endeavors and wants me to succeed, even when it adds challenges. Denton is tenacious, loyal and strong; he’s committed to family and determined to take care of us. He also gives the best hugs!
